    ABOUT THE PRACTICE

Bring a meal or snack chosen to satisfy your hunger as we practice mindful eating together during this monthly Conscious Café community practice. The one-hour practice includes guided invitations to cue back into one’s senses during the entire eating process with time to process and reflect on the experience.

Please note this is not a substitute for professional mindful eating intervention.  This is a taste of mindful eating practice for those interested in learning more.

    About the Event

The ability to effectively teach mindful eating rests largely on the time invested to cultivate our own personal practice on the mat, cushion, and around the table. Mindful Eating Professionals without a deep understanding of the practice will find engaging in meaningful discussions with their clients about their experiences challenging. Through the practice of embodiment, we are better equipped to guide clients toward a deeper understanding of their inner experience and to connect with their innate wisdom.

In this workshop, we will explore various facets of cultivating, refining, and embodying our mindful eating practice before and during a client or group session. We will begin by preparing to meet clients with a compassionate attitude and immersing ourselves in the curriculum. We will then explore ways to create a supportive environment when working with clients so they can connect to their experiences, inner wisdom, and the hurdles posed by conditioned beliefs and entrenched habits.

Participants are urged to nurture and embody their compassionate presence before arriving to create a supportive atmosphere for others during the workshop.

    Learning Objectives:

      1. Describe ways to cultivate a personal practice
      2. Create a plan to prepare body and mind for class
      3. Identify the different components of embodiment
Please note:  The nature of this event will require full attendance, as it is a workshop. Therefore, consider the quality of your presence when registering. If you anticipate being unable to participate in the working teams, we encourage you to register for the Recording Only event. You will find the link below.

      About the Event

Navigating the complexities of supporting individuals within the weight-inclusive, non-diet paradigm poses a significant challenge for many practitioners. How do we effectively assist those who desire weight loss when it contradicts our core philosophy?

Trained within a weight-centric framework, we may find ourselves unsure of how to provide meaningful support to clients seeking weight loss when we do not offer these services.

Join us for a panel discussion featuring three experts representing diverse disciplines. They will share their personal journeys transitioning from weight-centric approaches to embracing weight-inclusive care. Additionally, they will offer practical strategies for navigating these delicate situations.

By the end of this session, you'll feel empowered and equipped with a deeper understanding of how to provide compassionate, weight-inclusive care.

      Learning Objectives:

At the end of this event, the learner will be able to:

      1. Discuss moving from a weight-centric model to a weight-inclusive approach.
      2. Demonstrate how to meet client needs and desires within a weight-inclusive approach.
      3. Explain how anti-fat bias and weight oppression can impact a client's desire for weight loss.
      4. Apply care-affirming support to people in all body sizes

Body acceptance advocate Dr. Michelle Tubman, founder of Wayza Health, wages a powerful crusade against the prevalent unfair sizeism in our society via her podcast, Thrive Beyond Size. Her coaching programs are designed to liberate women form the dangerous diet culture dominating their lives ever since they were old enough to understand a world in which their weight determined their worth. A now reformed chronic dieter who struggled with shame and low self-esteem, Michelle set out to find the answers. She certified in eating psychology, intuitive eating, nutrition and binge eating treatment. As a physician, she is triple-board certified in emergency medicine, obesity medicine, and lifestyle medicine, where she strives to bring more awareness to the presence of weight stigma that runs rampant through healthcare systems today. Initially setting out in her coaching practice to advocate for safe, effective weight loss, Dr. Tubman eventually realized she was just perpetuating the problem by focusing on weight. The real issue was breaking women from shame and self-criticism and replacing their all-consuming obsession with weight with a peaceful, loving relationship with food and the permission to do, be, and have what they want now, at any size.

When she is not found reading, writing or in her clinic, she tries spending most of her time in nature, with her dogs, with friends and in deep conversations.
