About the Event

In this series, you'll learn how to deconstruct the values, norms, and perceptions that guide the current western view of yoga, beauty, and success. We will explore these poignant topics through in-depth, open forum discussions, practical hands-on asana labs, and interactive yoga practices.

An introduction to Yoga, Diversity and Body Image:

Engaging conversation that delves into the topics of yoga, diversity, and body image. This discussion provides a solid foundation for the in-depth explorations that follow. In this module, we begin to unpack social messaging and socialization around body image using practical methods and strategies that you can easily employ in everyday life. You will learn how to reclaim a more powerful understanding of who you are and how you show up in the world. The art of self-inquiry and compassionate self-study:

We will explore the concept of wellness for all, by decolonizing the wellness industry so that we can reach broader populations. Learn how to be kinder to yourself, while employing new tools that help to make wellness and health a priority- regardless of any outstanding circumstances. Find out how you can facilitate a collective embodiment of health and wellness. By the end, you will have a practice set of tools and strategies that will help you expand your knowledge of accessible wellness among diverse populations. You will also learn how to take better care of yourself with limited resources so that you can leave a positive impact on our communities and the world.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify the practical methods and strategies to unpack social messaging around body image.
  2. Apply the practical methods and strategies that are easily included in everyday life to deconstruct and remove current norms and perceptions that guide western cultures view of beauty.
  3. Describe practical ways to reclaim a more powerful understanding of who you are and how you show up in the world.
  4. List some of the tools and strategies to help expand your knowledge of accessible wellness among diverse populations.


About the Presenter

Dianne Bondy is a social justice activist, author, accessible yoga teacher, and leader of the Yoga For All movement.

Her inclusive approach to yoga empowers anyone to practice—regardless of their shape, size, ethnicity, or level of ability. Dianne is revolutionizing yoga by educating yoga instructors around the world on how to make their classes welcoming for all kinds of practitioners.

Change Agent in Modern Yoga

Dianne’s commitment to increasing diversity in yoga has been recognized in her work with Pennington’s, Gaiam, and the Yoga & Body Image Coalition, as well as in speaking engagements at Princeton, Duke, University of Buffalo, and UC Berkeley on Yoga, Race, and Diversity.
