About the Event

Prior to the approval of Wegovy for weight loss, Novo Nordisk's C-suite promised their shareholders the fastest ever post-FDA approval launch and a doubling of their "obesity sales". Eli Lilly soon followed suit.

From massive marketing campaigns and international press, to PSAs and medical drama plotlines, to hundreds of millions paid to doctors, researchers, and “advocacy” groups, the new GLP-1 agonists and GLP-1/GIP co-agonists weight loss drugs like Ozempic/Wegovy and Mounjaro/Zepbound are everywhere, promising almost everything.

In this session, we’ll go behind all the marketing hype and dig into what the research actually says about these drugs including long-term outcome data, side effects, and uses beyond weight loss.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this event, the learner will be able to:

  1. List and define the new GLP-1 and GLP1/GIP co-agonist drugs
  2. Explain the differences between their uses for Type 2 Diabetes, Weight Loss, and other usages
  3. Interpret the research for these pharmacotherapies including long-term outcome and adverse event data
  4. Critique marketing campaigns for these drugs
