About the Event

Have you ever felt torn between the freedom that can be found in mindful eating and the looming reminders of the "restrictions" necessary to address your health goals? A balance between self-care and flexibility is the key to finding the “sweet spot” in mindful eating. Your approach can make the difference between feeling resentful or feeling empowered. Learn how autonomy and choice are essential elements in mindful eating and how to shift from an attitude of “being good” to one of “feeling good”. This workshop will set you on a journey toward creating your personal owner’s manual for your body by mastering mindfulness. Everyone truly can enjoy peace and health, simultaneously.

Learning Objectives

  1. Examine your current eating style using a tool that measures self care verses flexibility

  2. Name the factors that promote intrinsic or value driven health behaviors.
  3. Develop the mindfulness strategies for creating an "owners manual" for your unique health needs.

    About the Presenter

    Dr. Kari Anderson, LPC, CEDS-S

Having personally struggled with binge eating and weight stigma, Kari’s professional career is driven by a personal passion. She has a therapeutic presence that creates a safe, non-judgmental, and healing environment making her, as patients often state, “someone who gets it.”

Prior to starting her private practice, Kari positioned herself as a respected clinician and leader in the field of eating disorders. Over the course of 30 years, Kari has developed several treatment models and helped thousands of patients and their families for programs such as Green Mountain at Fox Run and Remuda Ranch.

Kari earned her Doctor of Behavioral Health with her research project The Mindful Eating Cycle: Treatment for Binge Eating Disorder at Arizona State University in 2012. Co-creator of the Am I Hungry? ® Mindful Eating for Binge Eating Program, Kari also co-authored the acclaimed book, Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat for Binge Eating: A Mindful Eating Program for Healing Your Relationship with Food and Your Body. Her newest book and memoir; Food, Body and Love, but the greatest of these is love, was released earlier this year.

Kari holds a faculty position with the Eating Disorder Institute for Plymouth State University in New Hampshire and serves on the certification committee for the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, supporting supervisors for the Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) designation. Kari is a licensed counselor, coach, consultant, supervisor, author, speaker and blogger on disordered eating, behavior change strategy and weight neutrality.
