July Host: Lynn Rossy, Ph.D, TCME President

July Monthly Theme: Walking and Moving Mediation

Date: Wednesday, July 22*, 2020

*Please note this is the 4th Wednesday of the Month.

Join us for our monthly online community meditation! Meditation cultivates attention and awareness of thoughts, feelings, and all the senses without judgment. It encourages curiosity and cultivates compassion, thus providing a foundation for mindful eating.

The Center for Mindful Eating is committed to developing a community that shares the common goal of increasing awareness and compassion. We want to create a protected time and space where you can learn to meditate, or deepen your existing practice, in the company of like-minded people.

* Meditation is generally held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, however it may be held on the 4th Wednesday of the month due to scheduling conflicts.

Monthly Theme:

When you think of meditation, you probably think of someone sitting on a cushion or chair with their eyes closed. This sitting position is the one most commonly taught to people starting a meditation practice. However, there is an equally wonderful way to meditate that entails walking or moving and keeping your eyes open.

Join Dr. Lynn Rossy as she guides you through a traditional walking meditation and a more informal movement meditation. Walking and movement meditations help you drop more deeply into your body to hear it’s important messages for health, healing, and happiness. Becoming embodied through gentle movement is also a powerful way to be more attuned to the  signs of hunger and fullness, as well as to the emotions that often lead to eating.

Walking Meditation Poem by Thich Nhat Hahn

I take refuge in Mother Earth.

Every breath, every step

manifests our love.

Every breath brings happiness.

Every step brings happiness.

I see the whole cosmos in the earth.
