ME-CL2: Mindful Eating-Conscious Living: Deepening your Practice and Skills

  • Tuesday, September 10, 2019
  • Saturday, September 14, 2019
  • Great Vow Zen Monastery 79640 Quincy Mayger Rd Clatskanie, Oregon, USA

This training is designed for professionals who have completed ME-CL1 foundational mindful eating professional training, have an ongoing formal meditation practice, and have led one or more 8-week programs based on the ME-CL protocol.

The heart of this second level training is an invitation for experienced mindful eating teachers to explore more deeply the principles that are the underpinnings of the ME-CL program and to step more fully into embodied mindful presence. Teaching from this platform highlights the need for the teacher to have an ongoing formal and informal mindfulness practice.

This training will focus on the cultivation of intentional presence, authenticity, integrity and mindfulness-informed boundaries that support both the teacher and participants. We will examine the importance of meeting ourselves and our participants with steadiness and kindness, and carefully contemplate the place of compassion in this program. We will explore the psycho/spiritual aspects of eating which include craving, greed and aversion.

Throughout this training there will be opportunities for teachers to explore the intention and rationale of mindful inquiry and practice the skills associated with this pivotal piece of the program.   This second training invites a higher level of collegial participation and sharing. There will be time to nurture these qualities and skills through silent mindfulness practice, teaching opportunities, discussion and personal mentoring by the teachers.

Note: This is a required course for Teacher Qualification or Certification in ME-CL.

Facilitators: Jan Chozen Bays, MD and Char Wilkins, MSW, LCSW

The program will be led by experienced clinicians, mindfulness teachers and retreat leaders, Jan Chozen Bays, MD and Char Wilkins, LCSW. Char is a MBSR teacher certified by the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Medical School, Worcester, MA, USA. Jan is a pediatrician and author of Mindful Eating, A Guide to Rediscovering a Healthy and Joyful Relationship with Food. The program draws from Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), current research, and the instructors' combined 26 years of experience working in public and clinical settings with a wide range of people with distressed eating patterns.

Registration will be limited for this experiential program in order to cultivate an intimate, personal and highly interactive workshop environment.
