This is a two-part series that discusses the role of nutrition education in Mindful Eating.


In part 1, we will explore a Motivational Interviewing teaching model and identify common problems associated with mindful eating and nutrition education.


In part 2, we will explore the research supporting Mindful Eating Interventions, review how programs are currently offering nutrition education as part of their programs, discuss national nutrition standards and explore how these can be used in an MBI-eating program.

1. Participants will be able to describe three benefits of using nonjudgmental awareness in counseling sessions

2. Participants will be able to three requirements for offering a Mindfulness Based Intervention eating program

This program is the fifth of seven in our Foundations of Mindful Eating webinar series  that are designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to mindful eating principles and practices. This program will meet twice for a total of 2 hours. Two (2) CE/CPE for dietitians will be provided by ISG following completion of the post-test survey and evaluation.  ISG is also a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).  ISG maintains responsibility for this program and its content.


ABOUT OUR PRESENTER:

Megrette Fletcher is a cofounder of The Center for Mindful Eating and has served many positions including the 2013-2016 President. She is a public speaker and author of a number of books, including Discover Mindful Eating for Kids, Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat with Diabetes with Michelle MD, Discover Mindful Eating: A resource of handouts for health professionals, with Frederick Burggraf.  Megrette has also crafted detailed training for both the consumer and professional including, Am I Hungry: Diabetes, The Before, During and After the Bite Workshop, and The Core Concepts of Mindful Eating online training.  She is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator who has worked at an area hospital for over 16 years. 


Megrette’s curious name means “little Margaret” and seems to have French origins. Unfortunately, she is not a native speaker but she is an avid cyclist, passable cook, and a terrible bowler.  She lives in New Hampshire with her two and four-legged family.  She had maintained a daily meditation practice since 1999 when she began studying Buddhism as part of the Triratna Buddhist Order.  To learn more about Megrette, visit her website at Megrette.com
