    ABOUT THE PRACTICE

Bring a meal or snack chosen to satisfy your hunger as we practice mindful eating together during this monthly Conscious Café community practice. The one-hour practice includes guided invitations to cue back into one’s senses during the entire eating process with time to process and reflect on the experience.

Please note this is not a substitute for professional mindful eating intervention.  This is a taste of mindful eating practice for those interested in learning more.

    About the Event

This roundtable focuses on the importance of recognizing how Mindful Eating can both include and, at times, exclude BIPOC teachers, clients, and students from its healing benefits.

Through personal reflection and dialogue, Sharon and Daniela will explore how systemic oppressions such as but not limited to racism, historical trauma, and colonization can impact our relationship to food, eating, diet culture, and bodies in different ways.

They will share reflections on their journeys as mindful eating practitioners and teachers, and how this practice has been a precious friend in the path of healing. This is an offering for people of all identities.

    Learning Objectives:

At the end of this event, the learner will be able to:

    1. Describe several cultural differences and expectations around food, eating, and body.
    2. Explain how racism can impact a person's relationship to food, diet culture, and their own body.

    About the Event

Prior to the approval of Wegovy for weight loss, Novo Nordisk's C-suite promised their shareholders the fastest ever post-FDA approval launch and a doubling of their "obesity sales". Eli Lilly soon followed suit.

From massive marketing campaigns and international press, to PSAs and medical drama plotlines, to hundreds of millions paid to doctors, researchers, and “advocacy” groups, the new GLP-1 agonists and GLP-1/GIP co-agonists weight loss drugs like Ozempic/Wegovy and Mounjaro/Zepbound are everywhere, promising almost everything.

In this session, we’ll go behind all the marketing hype and dig into what the research actually says about these drugs including long-term outcome data, side effects, and uses beyond weight loss.

    Learning Objectives:

At the end of this event, the learner will be able to:

    1. List and define the new GLP-1 and GLP1/GIP co-agonist drugs
    2. Explain the differences between their uses for Type 2 Diabetes, Weight Loss, and other usages
    3. Interpret the research for these pharmacotherapies including long-term outcome and adverse event data
    4. Critique marketing campaigns for these drugs
