Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT), developed by Jean Kristeller and supported by NIH-funded research, addresses mindless and stress-related eating, disordered eating patterns, and obesity through the application of mindfulness meditation. This workshop provides intensive training in the application of the MB-EAT intervention program in clinical settings.
Informed by Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction work and the principles of food-intake regulation, the MB-EAT program employs mindfulness meditation, eating exercises, didactic instruction, and self-reflection to cultivate awareness and a more balanced and positive relationship to eating and weight.
Those with a substantive mindfulness meditation practice and related professional/clinical experience with eating issues are eligible to receive the full manual and be qualified to teach the MB-EAT program. Others receive an introduction to the practices of MB-EAT and gain valuable tools, approaches, and information to integrate into their work with others.
Note Tuition includes the Eating for Awareness CD set. Attendance at this workshop does not automatically qualify you to teach the MB-EAT program, but you will receive skills and tools to integrate into clinical practice. Jean Kristeller, PhD,
a clinical psychologist, has used meditation-based interventions for eating disorders and obesity for more than 20 years, and has received NIH funding for related research for the past seven years. She has taught at Harvard Medical School, the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and Indiana State University, and co-founded The Center for Mindful Eating. JKristeller@indstate.edu
Andrea Lieberstein, MPH, RD, RYT
, registered dietitian nutritionist, mindfulness-based stress reduction, mb-eat instructor and mindful eating coach, leads mindful eating trainings and retreats internationally, coaches and trains professionals and the general public. In her private practice she works with individuals with a wide range of disordered eating, weight management, body image issues and stress related issues and health concerns She directs Mind, Body, Spirit Programs at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco. Andrea is a contributing author to The Stress Reduction and Relaxation Training Workbook (5th edition) and Some Leaders are Born Women.
