Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training (MB-EAT), developed by Jean Kristeller
and supported by NIH-funded research, addresses mindless eating, stress-related eating, disordered eating patterns, and obesity through the application of mindfulness meditation. This workshop for health-care professionals provides intensive training in the elements and application of the MB-EAT intervention program in clinical settings.
Informed by Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) work, and principles of food intake regulation, the MB-EAT program employs mindfulness meditation, eating exercises, didactic instruction, and self-reflection to cultivate mindful awareness and a more balanced and positive relationship to eating and weight.
Those with a substantive mindfulness meditation practice and related professional/ clinical experience with eating issues will be eligible to receive the full manual and be certified to teach the MB-EAT program. Others will receive an introduction to the practices of MB-EAT and gain valuable tools, approaches, and information to integrate into their work with others.
Note: All participants receive the 2-CD Eating with Awareness set (with related scripts).
CE are available and included in the tuition. Attendance at this workshop does not automatically qualify you to teach the MB-EAT program.
Jean Kristeller, PhD, a clinical psychologist, has used meditation-based interventions for eating disorders and obesity for more than 20 years, and has received NIH funding for related research for the past seven years. She has taught at Harvard Medical School, the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and Indiana State University, and co-founded The Center for Mindful Eating. JKristeller@indstate.edu
Andrea Lieberstein, MPH, RDN, RYT, is a registered dietitian nutritionist, mindfulness-based stress reduction instructor, and mindful eating coach who leads trainings and retreats internationally.
